I can't open certain databases !
To view/edit the
SQLCE databases on your device, you need to have the relevant Microsoft
SQLCE libraries installed on your device.
If you have problems opening SQLCE databases:
to download the Microsoft SQLCE library files
- copy each of these .cab files onto your device, and install each of them
Remember, SQLCE Database Viewer does not currently allow
you to open SQLCE databases on Pocket PC 2002, .Net or SmartPhone devices.
What libraries do I need to install on my device to view / edit SQL
Server Mobile (2005) databases ?
To view/edit these databases, you will need to manually copy & install
the following Visual Studio 2005 .cab files onto your device:
- sqlce30.ppc.wce4.armv4.CAB
- sqlce30.repl.ppc.wce4.armv4.CAB
Is SQLCE Database Viewer compatible with SQL Server Mobile 2005 databases ?
Yes, it is
compatible with SQLCE 3.0 databases that are stored as .sdf files,
however, you should check that your databases can successfully
be opened and edited, using the 30-day download.
Does SQLCE
Database Viewer work with Smartphones or Windows CE .Net devices
?
Yes, with our latest
release (v2.3606), you can now open SQLCE databases on Smartphones
(Windows Mobile 5 or 6) and Windows CE .Net
devices (v4.2 or later).
Simply make sure that you device already has the SQLCE libraries installed
on your device. On Windows CE .Net devices, you may
also need to install a copy of the .Net Compact Framework .cab file
onto your device.
Are there any plans for a Symbian/Palm version ?
No, we do not have any plans to support these devices.
Can I use SQLCE Database Viewer to open databases on my Emulator ?
Yes, you can do this, but only if ActiveSync has been setup to connect
to your Emulator. The key to this is ActiveSync: if it shows that it's
connected to a device, then yes, you can connect to it using
SQLCE Database Viewer.
Does SQLCE Database Viewer support binary/blob fields ?
Currently, we only support textual binary fields on your device. For
example, if you have an ntext field containing multiple lines of text
data, then that data can be viewed and edited in our application.
However, for raw binary data, no, you cannot view/edit/export this data
using SQLCE Database Viewer.
I'm still having problems, trying to open an SQLCE database.
Okay, then you may
need to contact our support department.
Before doing this, please make sure you are running the latest version of SQLCE Database Viewer
(click on Options\Check for Updates, or download the latest patch from our downloads
page).
Then, on the main "File Explorer" screen, press CTRL+T to
open the Troubleshooter window.
Now, try to open your SQLCE database file.
If it still doesn't open, click on the "Export to file" button in the
Troubleshooter window, save your troubleshooter log into a file, and
email this to us, along with the make/model of device which you're trying
to connect to.
